This salt is inspired by the Vikings. We use garlic and red cayenne peppers grown and smoked on our farm, all enhanced with gray sea salt also smoked with maple wood.

Smoked salt can surprise with its powerful aromas typical of Nordic gastronomy; the smoked flavors come from an ancestral technique which consists in preserving meat and fish thanks to the smoking with wood. This process results in a unique, particularly strong and intoxicating taste. These are referred to as grill, barbecue, wood and salt flavours. Smoked foods and condiments go very well with pieces of chicken, beef, pork, game, for cooking vegetables or meat. Goes well with pizza and in tomato sauces. Delicious on popcorn!

Taste: Spicy with chilli, pungent with garlic and smoky, full-bodied, our Viking salt is reminiscent of cooking over a good old-fashioned fire.

☞ All our salts are created from medicinal plants grown on our farm and carefully selected during our harvests, which are always done by hand. We plant the garlic in October to harvest it the following year in August, dry it for a few weeks, then peel it before putting it in our smokehouse for several days; it is then dried and then broken into pieces, before being added to the mixture. Cayenne peppers are harvested at the very end of summer and immediately smoked for several days before being dried. The salt is smoked very slowly as needed to properly infuse it with the Viking flavors.

☞ The plants are then spread out on grids and inspected a second time before being dried at low temperature (around 35 C) in a dark dryer; thus we preserve all the properties and the delicate taste of each plant. Once dry, the plants are cleaned of their stems and other small unwanted pieces, always by hand; they are then blended, potted and labeled in our processing kitchen and stored in a cool, dark room.

☞ Gray sea salt is the product of water evaporation, caused by the combined effect of sun and wind, in the clay-bottomed basins of salt marshes. The crystals are simply harvested, drained and then sieved. It is a source of minerals (sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium) and trace elements (iron, manganese, zinc).
