About this event

We have become so disconnected from our textiles. For the most part, they are produced far away and often at great social and environmental cost. For people who love to work with textiles and create things with their hands, this can be very discouraging. We can feel a bit hopeless or we may try to feel nothing at all. Gradually, during the course of working with wool, I realized that here is an opportunity to find hope, to find joy, to experience raw fiber from land and animals that we can connect with, that we can know.

↠ For the workshop, I want to offer people the opportunity to create a finished, useful, beautiful textile from climate-beneficial fibers produced in a regenerative/biodynamic farming system on land that they can visit and possibly experience embodied gratitude.

↠ We will work with a variety of natural coloured fleeces and explore characteristics of various breeds of sheep while learning a wet-felting technique of working with a resist.

↠ Participants will leave with a finished product and experience with a technique that can be used for many different applications. We will also have a demonstration of washing a raw fleece.

↠ This is the second in a series of Fibreshed workshops offered by Ginger Howell of Ferme Sol, Wakefield, Quebec. No prior experience necessary. Stay tuned for plant foraging and dying this summer.
